The wind was in my hair, the sun shined brightly and the fluffy clouds moved gracefully in the bright blue sky. I was at the Canberra Southern Cross Club’s jetty just about to board the M.V. Southern Cross for an arvo of cocktails and canapes! If you’re anything like me, a day our on the water puts a smile on my face. Toss in good food and great company and it seals the deal.
Situated on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, the Southern Cross Yacht Club is home to the M.V. Southern Cross that departs for chartered tours of the lake either hosting dinner cruises or special events. But today was special, I was a guest, being specially treated to cocktails and canapes by the talented Executive Chef Jojy Vattoly!
And my day looked something like this…
The M.V. Southern Cross features fully enclosed air-conditioned dining or outer decks for alfresco cruising. I made my way up to the upper deck to have a better view of the expanse of Canberra’s centerpiece! With friends on the upper deck with me, we cruised the lake passing the National Museum of Australia, the Carillon, the National Library, the High Court of Australia and the National Gallery of Australia in merriment and quirky banter! In between all that, we savoured delicious canapes that were pretty to look and easy to eat while juggling an iPhone and GroPro in my other hand…
The boat holds up to 100 guests for a cocktail party, 70 for a plated dinner and 50 for a buffet. With everyone on the bottom deck, we had the upper deck all to ourselves and I couldn’t help but drift away into the blue yonder after a few #wefies of course!

I was a guest of Canberra Southern Cross Club. All opinions are my own.

Rose your gopro video is fabulous! Love the sound track and the editing. Great job. I am sure the Club would love to see it to. It would make an awesome promo for their website. Kirsty xx
Thank you Kirsty!! <3 I am pretty excited with how it turned out... I think I should use it more often... practice more to get better video footage and angles... Maybe more outings with the gang!
[…] more? Check out Rose’s review (and, particularly, view her excellent video) here. Did you know the CSCC at Yarralumla also does fish and chips daily? Yep, fish and chips in […]
Cute 🙂

It is such a great place to live Lesley! It’s quiet, there is no such thing as traffic jams and just very friendly people!! Make a visit sometime!

What a pleasant way to spend an afternoon in an underappreciated Australian city … might do this myself if I have the chance!
You got that right Frank. Canberra is definitely under-appreciated… I can’t see myself living anywhere else!
