10 Fun Things to do in Xian – China

by Rosemarie John on December 9, 2014

My trip to China wasn't the usual stopover in Beijing or Shanghai. Instead, it was to a city that was as important as Rome was in its heydays! Xi'an, the starting point of the ancient Silk Road is the largest overland trade route linking China to Central Asia and Europe and is filled with historical sites, beautiful tales and intriguing food. Here are my picks of 10 fun things to do in Xian.

10. Shop

Shopping in Xian

The Muslim Quarter is a great place to shop for unique items – food, clothes, curios. My favourite was their freshly ground course chilli!

Tigerair flies to Xi’an from Singapore three times a week. It is an awesome route to take when flying out of Australia as Tigerconnect, offers hassle-free transfer facility at Changi Airport. This allowed me to transit seamlessly and it can allows passengers access to more destinations on their network. Visit tigerair.com for more details.

Grand Park Xi’an – Located just two minutes from the metro station, this lovely hotel is also a five minute walk from the City Walls, a twenty minute walk to the Bell Tower and an hour’s drive to the famed site of the Army of Terracotta Warriors and Horses. The hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi and has a lovely breakfast spread offering both Chinese and Western cuisine. Address: 12 Xi Duan, Huan Cheng South Road, Xian 710068, Shaanxi, China. Visit their official website for rates.

**I was a guest of Tigerair. All opinions are entirely my own.

We went to see a water show in Hangzhou and it was absolutely incredible! It looked like the performers were floating on the water. If I’m ever in Xi’an again, I’ll definitely check out the water show at the hot springs!

The whole water element is what I think makes it so amazing! Especially how they use the mountain to light up to different scenes, truly spectacular!

We loved Xian! The best food we had in China was at a small hole in the wall that a local sent us to down an alley near the drum tower. It was a very large bowl of braised chicken and we ate it all. I almost licked the pan. I just stumbled on your site and I was happy to read this blog. Brings back memories of our time there. I agree the water treatment in the shows are awesome to. Cheers! -JR
