One hundred years ago on 1 January 1914, four men made the first scheduled commercial airline flight possible:
- Percival Fansler organised the funding for the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line which provided the first scheduled air service across Tampa Bay, Florida.
- Thomas Benoist’s airboat conducted the first flight, piloted by Tony Jannus.
- Abram Pheil, then mayor of St. Petersburg, paid $400 at auction for the 23-minute flight.
That 23-minute journey marked the birth of the global airline industry! Today, air travel means a whole load of things to different people. It reunites loved ones, it connects cultures, it opens markets, it expands minds and much more.
But to me, air travel means adventure! Every time I board a flight I am excited. Whether it is to see my parents or to see a new city, I am thrilled. My adventure begins the minute I hear the boarding announcement, get seated, fasten my seat belt and soar into the skies!
Love the phrase on the bib you’re wearing in that photo.
I love travel because it gives me a chance to experience something that’s completely different to my every day. I loved traveling to Thailand (my first overseas trip) because it gave me a chance to get out of my comfort zone (nothing says life on the edge than doing 140kph in a taxi that’s driving in the fifth lane of a four lane highway), learn about a life that is completely different to the one I live and meet new and fantastic people.
I also love traveling in my own country because we have such a beautiful and varied landscape, the people are always fun and there’s nothing better than learning about the country you live in and it’s history.

What do I love about travel?
Having three young daughters and our family being so far apart, traveling allows us to maintain our strong family bond as well as getting to show my girls some of this amazing planet.
I’ve been so lucky that in my line of work I have had the opportunity to experience so many different cultures and countries, traveling by plane, boat or car, allows me to give my family the same experience.
That’s why I love to travel. I don’t like the 5 x times the cost aspect though, that’s just mean 🙁
What I love about travelling?
TRAVELLING creates shared memories and experiences.
It cultivates a sense of REVERENCE for this world that we live in.
It is simply AWE-INSPIRING to experience the world one moment at a time.
I learnt that the world is more VAST than I could ever imagine.
It EDUCATES.
I LOVE to simply experience life through travelling.
I love to travel, because it allows you to explore the history and cultures you read about.
When you are travelling every experience feels new and exciting, you learn from them and take away the bits that resonate for you to add to your own world.
What I love about traveling?
Travel lets me see the world, like, literally! I love being able to see a place I’ve seen in movies or pictures come to life right before my eyes. I love the feeling of being swept in awe looking at a majestic structure or a gorgeous sunset. I also love hearing the stories of daily life and history from locals, exchanging stories with fellow tourists and treating my palate to yummy goodness and new flavors. Above all, I love the opportunity to bond with and create wonderful memories with my spouse and travel partner for life.
I totally hear you that flights = adventure! Where are you off to next? I’m going to Bali in two days and I’m SO excited. 🙂
Oh Bali! How exciting! I may be off to Bhutan… let’s see if it all works out to plan. 🙂
For me travel has been an all-consuming passion, my first love. My whole life’s been geared towards travel. It Is the simplicity of life. Well, at least the kind of travelling we do.
These are my ideas in no particular order.
1. challenge yourself
2. enjoy new experiences
3. prove to yourself you can
4. learn a new language
5. experience new cultures
6. party or just to have fun
7. see new things
8. eat new food
It’s invigorating – If you are open to it, travel will simply make you a more well-rounded human being.Which is really the goal, isn’t it?

I love travelling because I love seeing the different ways that people do life, experiencing different cultures, and also the natural beauty of this world. Photography is one of my hobbies, because I am always wanting to try and capture the moment that I am experiencing and share it with others.
I’m so glad to have stumbled on your website because I’m travelling to India at the end of the year with my husband to attend the wedding of a school friend, and also be a bridesmaid. I think that will definitely be a different experience, especially coming from New Zealand. I’m excited about it, and I’m counting down the days. Hopefully I don’t do anything stupid! I’m also really looking forward to the travel around india we have planned for after the wedding.
I love travelling
Because of the atmosphere in going to new destination. I also love travelling especially by air as there is something there, as you can hear the engines whine up and feel that you are going somewhere and is also like andrenallin hitting you. I love learning about cultures, different types of food, meeting different people and creating memories with my family or with travel companions if I’m in a travel group. Travelling also educates me and I live life through travelling.

I think a city is like a person, each of them carry its own unique personality and traits. What I love the most about travelling is getting to know a city well. I don’t like being in a tour group where I have to hop from one city to another in such short period of time. When go to a city that I like (or think that I might like it), I want to be there for a while, and get to know it.
Hi!
Is this contest open worldwide?
Thanks!
Yes it is.
There are many things to love travelling such as broadening of horizons, making new friends as well as learning more about other cultures. However, I enjoy the journey to the destination the most, be it land transport or by air.
Overall, my favourite has to be taking the train as it allows ample time to look at the scenery without compromising on comfort (some trains are air conditioned with flat-beds) and price. On some trains, there are even in house restaurants which serve up local delicacies, allowing tourists to get a taste of local cuisines before setting food on land.
One memorable experience was on the express rail from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok where I’ve spent most of the night mingling with other tourists at the restaurant on board the train which devouring into a sumptuous meal of tom-yam seafood curry and drinking ‘Chang’ beer.
As the saying goes, it’s not about the journey that matters, not the destination.
