The Park
Lying half a kilometre away from the southern coast of Singapore is Sentosa Island, an island that houses the world famous Universal Studios. A theme park for all ages, Universal Studios Singapore located within the integrated Resorts World is one of only two such amusement parks to exist in Asia. With 19 attractions within seven themed zones, riding the movies couldn’t get any grander!
With three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg as creative consultant, Universal Studios is known for some of the most thrilling and technologically advanced motion picture and television show-based attractions. The most exciting and adrenaline pumping rides are situated within Sci-Fi City and Ancient Egypt.
The Rides
If that feeling of complete loss of control is up your alley, make sure to take on Battlestar Galactica that features the world’s tallest pair of duelling roller coasters called HUMAN and CYLON. Human travels at speeds of 82.8km/h narrowly avoiding collisions as it twists, turns and propels you over 14 storeys into the air. Cylon on the other hand is a suspended roller coaster that goes upside down with an intense corkscrew, a cobra roll and vertical loops with your feet dangling in the air.

Encompassing a storyline and a stimulating ride, the Revenge of the Mummy is a psychological thrill ride into total darkness. Based upon the popular Mummy movie, this enclosed steel roller coaster begins with an entertaining tale before plummeting you into steep drops and the scary idea of the unknown. As the ride catapults you at speeds up to 45 mph in Imhotep’s abyss, you’ll be plagued on all sides by huge fireballs, swarms of scarab beetles and an army of warrior mummies offering a spine-tingling excitement if you keep your eyes open throughout the journey, that is.

Always wanted to fight the malevolent Decepticons? Here’s your chance! Become members of a Human-Autobot alliance called N.E.S.T in Transfromers: The Ride 3D. Blurring the line between fiction and reality, this next-generation ride fuses high definition 3D media and flight simulation technology creating an immersive feeling of being right in the middle of a war zone. The journey begins and ends with Optimus Prime in his quest to save humanity from destruction. If alien robots transforming into everyday machinery isn’t your cup of tea, sit this one out as this ride, is for a true Transformers fan!

If you’re looking to have a relaxing spin on amusement rides, head on to Madagascar: A Crate Adventure and Shrek 4-D Adventure. The former takes you on a cruising river boat ride with loads of animation and music about the undertakings of Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria while the latter exposes you to a few surprises as you see, hear and FEEL the action right from your seat in a fairytale journey.
The only drawback about the Shrek 4-D Adventure experience is the lengthy introduction performed in a rather disappointing manner as the presenter speaks as if she is whining which makes it rather annoying. The torture of the introduction is soon forgotten for the 4-D element of the ride is incredibly amusing.
The land of Far Far Away
The rest of the rides are rather simple and could either excite you or come off as rather boring depending on perspective. A child might find every ride truly splendid while adults might tend see otherwise. Spread around the park’s lagoon are Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, Canopy Flyer, Dino-soarin, King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Around, Enchanted Airways, Magic Portion Spin, Treasure Hunters and Accelerator.
The Accelerator is a disappointing ride, it actually slows down when you here the announcement of reaching maximum speed!
Don’t forget to take a picture with some of the many cartoon and movie characters throughout the park

Visitor Tips
- The park is open daily from 10am to 7pm. If you head on down at 10am sharp during the non-peak season, you have a better chance of experiencing the rides without massive queues. The rush of visitors start to emerge around 12 noon, so that gives you a two hour lead in experiencing the rides rush free.

Click to enlarge. - The Universal Express Pass is pretty awesome to use when the lines are horrendously long especially during peak season. However, please note that the Universal Express Pass can only be used once for each ride, so use it strategically. See seasonal price chart here
- Visitors are NOT allowed to carry anything with them on most thrill rides (i.e. cameras, bags, sunglasses, etc). Fret not, there are ample of lockers available next to each ride which offer a FREE 30 minute usage. The best thing to do is to travel light, leave what ever you don’t need at home or in the hotel safe. Those who where slippers will not be able to have them on during the most rides, best to wear sandals or shoes which won’t come off during the rides.
- The only ride that will get you wet is The Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure located in the Lost World. You can opt to bring your own raincoat or choose to buy one from the vending machines next to the ride.
- On selected Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm till 10pm, visitors get to enjoy Hollywood After Hours with an array of food & beverage options, retail shopping available along Hollywood Walk Of Fame and experience the Lake Hollywood Spectacular at 9pm. It is an incredible pyrotechnics show set to a musical score that will burst across the night sky. Tickets for Hollywood After Hours cost SGD5.00 per person and are available on-site at Universal Studios Singapore Ticket Booth from 6:30pm onwards on the actual day.
- On selected Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, be amazed as Madagascar, Revenge of the Mummy, Jurassic Park and Shrek come to life in the all-new Hollywood Dreams Parade. The parade starts at 6.30pm. Click here for show schedule.
- Getting to Universal Studios is easy. Hop on the North-East Line MRT and alight at HarbourFront Station. Head on up to Level 3 of VivoCity Shopping Mall and take the Sentosa Monorail across. The ride across cost approximately SGD2.00. For more options on how to get there, click here

Been there 2 weeks ago after kayaking and sunbathing in Langkawi ! Had a wonderful experience. Cyclone in a lot better than human. The day i went it rained but they extended the opening timings for an hour. Missed the Madagascar crate ride and a few kiddie rides but covered the rest so i am happy.
